MLA blames cops for drugs prevalence
Sankarapuram MLA T Udhayasuriyan blamed the police for the prevalence of drugs and gutkha in the state while making sarcastic remarks on the force’s promptness in arresting the protesters in several instances including Thoothukudi Sterlite issue and Greenfield 8-lane Express Way.

Speaking on the debate on demand for grants for Home Department, the DMK legislator traded barbs with the ruling dispensation.
Udhayasuriyan noted that drug issue was tied to the murder in Kannagi Nagar in the city and also raised the instance where a district publicity official being held for peddling ‘substance’ to drive home his point.
While raising the issue of midnight arrests culture continuing in the government, Udhayasuriyan said that the trend which began with the arrest of the DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi under the cover of darkness is disrupting the peace in several families affecting women and children.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami who gave rebuttals for the issues maintained that the arrests were preventive in nature.
