New centre, a boost for naturopathy
In a first in the country, a Yoga and Naturopathy Science Centre of international-standards would come up in Chengalpet Government Medical College Hospital campus near here in an expanse of 50 acres at cost of Rs 60 crore said Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.

Making a suo motu statement under Rule 110 in the Assembly on Monday, the Chief Minister noted that the proposed facility would encourage treatments in streams of naturopathy and would come in handy to tackle life-style changes induced non-communicable diseases.
“The facility would have a hospital offering graduate, post-graduate and research disciplines and hostel for students and residential accommodations for staff.
Necessary staff would be appointed to this facility,” Palaniswami said.
Delving further into the facilities present in the proposed Centre, the Chief Minister said, “Naturopathy therapies including colour therapy, massage therapy, mud therapy, herbal therapy, magnet therapy, acupressure, acupuncture, water therapy, natural food therapy, and yoga therapy among others, which are deemed safe treatment practices would be offered in a natural setting.”
Palaniswami also reeled out a list of infrastructural development for Health and Family Welfare Department.
For Government Stanley Hospital here in the city, three additional floors would be constructed in the existing single multi-storey building to accommodate all speciality treatments offered by present in the government.
The construction would be taken up at a cost of Rs 55.55 crore. For Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, the state would take up the construction of four additional floors in the Outpatients block at a cost of Rs 42.88 crore.
As part of the package, the government would upgrade as many as 985 Health sub centres at a cost of Rs 82.02 crore. The state would spend as much as Rs 30 crore towards building additional floors and additional buildings to equip the increased influx of patients turning up for treatment in government block-level hospitals in Sirkazhi, Tiruttani, Omalur, Tiruchendur, Paramakudi, Panruti and Arani.
CT simulator with brachytherapy and bunkers and additional higher care equipment for cancer care in oncology divisions in Madurai, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and Salem Medical College Hospitals were also announced.
Palaniswami also covered aspects such as nutritious food for TB patients and other infrastructure facilities for several other hospitals
