Notice to state on plea against TNPCB chairman
The Madras High Court has sought the state’s response on the appointment of IAS official Md. Nasimuddin to hold additional charge as the post of Chairman, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB).

The Division Bench comprising Justice KK Sasidharan and Justice R Subramanian before whom a PIL seeking to declare the GO dated October 9, 2017, directing the said officer to hold full additional charge as the Chairman of TNPCB as null and void, issued notice to TN Rajagopalan, Government Pleader on behalf of Chief Secretary, Public (Special A) Department and posted the matter for further hearing to July 4.
Advocate M Radhakrishnan appearing on behalf of Poovulagin Nanbargal, represented by its trustee G Sunderrajan, said the Supreme Court in its judgment in Techi Tagi Tara versus Rajendra Singh Bhandari made it clear that the Chairperson of the Pollution Control Board must have the necessary expertise and experience. The counsel further submitted that Nasimuddin lacks experience.
The AAG, who appeared on behalf of the Government Pleader, submitted that Nasimuddin possess necessary expertise and experience and sought time to file a statement regarding the same.
