The flight service connecting the state capital with its cultural capital was launched way back in 1976, 42 years ago, which was welcomed by the public and also traders, including the wholesale dealers who found the service extremely beneficial to send their products and produces like flowers and vegetables to Mumbai market quickly.

However, Air India now announced the cancellation of flights AI-671 and AI-672 till July 31 due to poor patronage that has made them unviable.

Following this, Union Minister of State Pon Radhakrishnan issued a statement requesting the Civil Aviation Ministry to reconsider its decision.

Air India has been operating AI-671 flight from Chennai to Madurai. As per the schedule, the flight reached Chennai at 10.50 am and departed from here to Madurai at 11.30 am. Again, the flight would return to Chennai at 2.15 pm and depart to Mumbai at 3.30 am as AI-672.
