The arrested were identified as S Rajan alias Kettiyan (33) of Namakkal, his wife, Roopa alias Anu Roopa (22) and Y Nishanthan (26) of Mandapam. They were nabbed while attempting to flee in a ferry from the Mandapam shore.

Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena told DT Next, that the couple in detention was notorious. As many as 32 cases, involving crimes such as house break-ins, chain snatching and property theft, in parts of Tiruchy, Coimbatore, Namakkal and Salem had been filed against them. Since most cases against them were reported in Tiruchy, the accused would be handed over to Tiruchy police for further investigation.
