Addressing reporters at the airport here, Vaiko recalled that Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy had openly opposed the release of water to Tamil Nadu after the formation of the Cauvery Water Management Authority.
“We should not think that water will be given by Karnataka regularly based on the release of water due to rain and floods. They had released it since they had no other option. We cannot conclude based on this,” he said, reacting to questions on Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami’s remarks that he had done his duty.
On reports of the Centre giving permission to the construction of a dam across the Cauvery at Mekedatu, Vaiko said, “If such permission had been given, there is nothing more fraudulent and unjust than this act.” Answering a query on lack of follow up action after the Income Tax raids in Tamil Nadu, the MDMK leader demanded that the respective departments should come out with an explanation on the raids to the people.
Vaiko had earlier, welcomed the raids on contractors close to the Chief Minister’s family saying that the Centre could not be blamed when a large amount of money had been seized in the raids.
