Ganapathy was a cook and the rest of them were working at a farm. Police said that all of them were lured by agents who had promised them jobs in Malaysia at a salary of 50,000 per month.

The agents had also collected Rs 50,000 to Rs 80,000 from the victims. They were sent to Malaysia in September, 2017.

The victims were forced to work at a rubber factory without being paid and when they asked for money, they faced death threats.

They were also blackmailed that they could be jailed for working there on a tourist visa. When Tamils’ association in Malaysia was informed about the issue, they helped the victims to travel back.
