With this, paper roller grinding process would be taken up in the unit itself for which it had to earlier depend on the Karur TNPL unit. SVR Krishnan, a senior official of TNPL unit 2, said, “The plant, which was inaugurated by late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, had been manufacturing advanced multilayer double-coated paperboards for wrapping purposes. There are as many as 243 rollers running close to one another for turning the pulp into advanced multilayer double-coated paperboard. As the rollers are running close to each other, a minor damage due to traction would compromise the quality of the finished products. So, the rollers have to be maintained frequently to ensure the quality of products.”
“With this ‘Roller Grinder Machine’ detecting defects in the rubber and metal rollers, the product would be sharp. he machine is capable of correcting minute details in the size of 2 microns. Earlier, as
we were sending our rollers to the Karur TNPL for grinding, we had to frequently transport the rollers from here. Now, following the installation of the new machine. We can reduce the transportation cost and time,” he said He added that being a highend state-of-the-art machinery, the particular grinder is much more advanced than the one in the Karur factory.
According to the damage level, the new machine can take 30 minutes to one day for repairing the roller. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami inaugurated the unit through video conferencing from Chennai.
