The man, identified as Alexander (50), had wanted to explore the caves located on the 2445-foot high hills but lost his way. He contacted the Tiruvannamalai police control room on Friday.

A search and rescue team climbed the hills on Saturday but were unable to locate Alexander till evening, following which they decided to descend.

The team resumed the search on Sunday and located a dehydrated Alexander. They brought him down by 2 pm. Police after briefly questioning him sent him to the Tiruvannamalai Government Medical College Hospital for treatment.

This is the second instance of a tourist being stranded atop the Annamalai hills in this month. An Indian national, who lost his way atop the hills, was earlier rescued by the Forest department and police personnel.
