Judge Selvam on Friday sentenced the accused, Govindaraj, to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 for sexual molestation, besides a life sentence and a fine of Rs 2,000 under the POCSO Act. He was sentenced to another one year of RI for threatening to kill her. All three sentences were to run concurrently and the non-payment of the fine would result in two more months in jail.

Govindaraj, son of Sampath of Vellaikal village, had enticed a 17-year-old girl from the same locality to have sex with him promising to marry her. He then had molested the girl on October 9, 2016. Thereafter, when the girl demanded him to keep his promise and marry her, Govindaraj refused to oblige. The accused also threatened to kill her if she pestered him regarding this.

Thereafter, Vaniyambadi all women police had registered a case and arrested Govindaraj.
