The Vice-Chancellor of Tamil University G Bhaskaran retired after three years of service and his farewell was held on the university campus on Friday.

On Saturday, when the university drivers came for their duty, they were shocked to see that three vehicles including a Bolero and a van owned by the university have been vandalised. The wind shields of the vehicle were bro-ken. Soon, they passed on the information to Bhaskaran who visited the spot.

The Registrar, Muthukumar, lodged a complaint with the Tamil University police and a case was registered and investigation is on.

Meanwhile, there were a series of alleged charges of irregularities against the Vice-Chancellor and a faction was reportedly working against him. They had also claimed that Bhaskaran had accepted bribes for appointments and even his own appointment, reportedly, flouted norms.

Since the Vice-Chancellor did not much pay heed to such allegations or the protests they were irritated and started a campaign to urge the staff not to participate in his retirement meeting. Allegedly, those who were against the Vice-Chancellor had damaged the vehicles.

The police said, the university which covers around 1,000 acres has no CCTV camera especially at the entrance and the vehicle parking lots. This has made it difficult for the police to identify the culprits.
