The police said, Maheshwaran, 33 and his relative Marimuthu, 33, both from Mannarai, were returning home through Pavadikal Street, when the incident happened.  “They found gravel stones dumped on the road and an auto rickshaw was blocking the pathway, hence the duo asked the two men sitting inside the auto to move their vehicle aside,” an officer said.

Immediately, the accused, identified as Ajith and his brother Parthiban, got out and started thrashing the youths with an iron rod. Soon, the siblings were joined by their father, Kumar, who too attacked the victims. Maheshwaran was admitted to Tirupur Government Hospital’s ICU while Marimuthu was treated as an outpatient.

The Tirupur North Police registered a case under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act and on other counts for assault. The police arrested all the three on Sunday.
