Abdul Samad was elected as an MLA from the Vaniyambadi constituency in 1989. He used to live with his relatives in a house in New Town, which remains occupied by his relatives following his death.

The residents had gone to Bangalore a couple of days ago to attend a family function. On their return on Monday morning, they found the main entrance open and its lock broken. A check inside the house revealed both the cash and the jewellery were missing. The culprits were suspected to have escaped from the back door of the house which was found ajar.

A case has been registered in this connection.
