Gangster’s mother cries foul over son’s arrest

Kalaiselvi (65), the accused’s mother, had petitioned Vellore Collector SA Raman at the weekly grievances day meet stating that her son was looking after her since she was undergoing cancer treatment. 

Thereafter, the accused had himself petitioned the Collector on June 9 stating that he was looking forward to reform himself, she said. On August 3, Sathuvachari police entered our house and took away Raja on charges of attempting to kill SI Govindaraj, she said. 

Stating that it was a false charge framed against her son, Kalaiselvi pleaded for justice saying that Raja had now become reformed. Further, she added that his marriage was fixed and that his arrest has messed up everything. Meanwhile, 22 persons were arrested across the district on the night of August 3 for their alleged involvement in cotton betting, sale of illicit arrack and sand smuggling, as per the orders from Vellore SP Pravesh Kumar. In a similar raid on August 4, 26 more persons were arrested.

A total of 58 cases have been registered in this connection while 16 vehicles used for various offences were seized. All the arrested persons were remanded to custody.
