Madurai Railway division earns Rs 261 crore

The Madurai division of Southern Railway during the current fiscal has achieved total earnings of Rs 261.57 crore, which is 5.92 per cent more than the corresponding period of last year.

Unfurling the national flag on 72nd Independence Day celebrations in Madurai on Wednesday, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Neenu Ittyerah said, “Of this, earnings from reserved passenger traffic has increased by 9.8 per cent whereas earnings from unreserved passenger rose by 18 per cent.” 

During this period, a total of 344 special trains were operated. The occupancy of these special trains ranged from 80 per cent to 110 per cent. Fifty-one unmanned level crossings were removed between April and July this year. Further, contracts for operating catering stalls at eight stations had been awarded, she said.
