Although the Cauvery and Kollidam are brimming, the protesters claimed that areas irrigated through Kattalai Mettu canal and Uyyakondan canal are yet to receive water.

The farmers who assembled before the PWD office claimed that the water carried by the rivers has been draining into the sea due to poor management by the PWD.

They also said that since desilting works were not undertaken properly, there was no water flow into the tailend regions. The protesters raised slogans against the officials and demanded immediate release of water into Kattalai Mettu canal.

On information, the Executive Engineers of Kattalai Mettu and Uyyakondan canals along with Boothalur police held talks with the agitating farmers. The officials assured that they would release water from Tuesday. Following this, the farmers called off their protest but warned they would resume it from Wednesday if water was not released.
