Taking into account the extensive damages caused by floods and landslips, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday announced an additional relief of Rs 5 crore to Kerala, besides announcing various relief materials for the flood-affected victims.

An official release here said, as the Kerala was badly hit by rains and floods, the Chief Minister had announced Rs 5 crore relief on August ten, besides ensuring dispatch of various relief materials worth several crores to the neighbouring state.

Considering the magnitude of the damages caused by flash floods, Palaniswami announced an additional relief of Rs 5 crore to Kerala.

He also said 500 metric tonnes of rice, 300 metric tonnes of milk powder, 15,000 litres of UHT milk, dhoties, lungies, 10,000 bed sheets and medical and veterinary teams, equipped with essential medicines would be sent to Kerala as relief.

He also announced that senior IAS officers Santhosh Babu and Darez Ahmed would coordinate the relief works to be supervised by the Tamil Nadu Revenue Administration Commissioner.

Stating that the normal life in Kerala was completely hit with several districts reeling under floods, he said so far more than 300 people were said to have lost their lives due to rains and floods.

He expressed anguish and grief over their deaths and offered his condolences to the bereaved families on behalf of the people of the state and the government.
