The teams, headed by three Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), will probe the death of farmer couple Kannan (58) and Valliamal (52). They were found dead in their farm well on Monday.
While Kannan sustained a head injury, Valliammal suffered many cuts on the neck and a part of her ear was missing.
The Kadaladi police had rounded up nearly 100 people.
Sources said gold jewels worn by Valliammal were missing. A sniffer dog led the investigators to a short distance away from the crime scene.
The police said the assailants had knocked on Kannan’s door at night. The couple was attacked when he opened the door. Kannan managed to run out but was chased and killed by the culprits, who hit with a boulder on his head, the police said.
To deceive the sniffer dogs from tracking them, the miscreants had sprinkled chilli powder inside the house and water mixed with cow dung on the blood stains.
The police said the culprits chopped parts of Valliammal’s ears to get the studs. A gold chain was also missing. Police were probing to find out if any property dispute was the reason behind the attack.
