Awareness drive to bring down fatality rate on tracks

After presiding over a programme, which was held on the premises of Madurai railway junction on Wednesday, to raise safety awareness among rail passengers, he said that passengers’ lives were precious and they should never compromise with safety, which must be a priority for all.

Also, a team of 12 students from Department of Social Welfare, Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, Madurai staged a drama on how the rail passengers should be cautious while boarding trains and during travel. 

Further, Babu said that the Railway police had plans to organise a series of street play events in all places under the limits of 46 railway police stations across the state. Initially, a street play was organised in Coimbatore, the ADGP said. 

Moreover, he told DT Next that six habitual offenders from Bihar were recently arrested on charges of crimes against rail passengers. Based on CCTV footages, these criminals were nabbed, he said, adding that special teams had gone to Patna and busted their hideouts before nabbing them. Also, 25 sovereigns were recovered from the offenders, who indulged in incidents of snatching chains from passengers, he added.

The accused were identified as S Nithish Kumar Singh (23), N Manishkumar Singh (23), R Abhimanyu Kumar Singh (31), R Rajeshkumar Yadav (29), G Sonu Sorajya Singh (32) and P Mint Prasath (32), he said.
