The couple, Graham William Lynn, 30 from England and Silviya Plassic, 27 from Poland, booked the entire NMR charter special train paying Rs 2.85 lakh for a trip from Mettupalayam to Ooty. The Salem Division of the Southern Division has been operating special charter services in NMR to promote hill tourism.

As the couple reached Coimbatore from Chennai early on Friday morning, the railway staff received and guided them to the special train. They were then given a short history lesson on the rich heritage of NMR before embarking upon the journey.

“Our love blossomed during a train journey. So we decided to make our honeymoon visit to India special by taking a trip in the renowned NMR in India. We loved the journey, it was spectacular,” said Graham.

The couple was all praise for Indians too as they said,” Your love will always remain in our hearts. We have gone to several countries, but this trip has been really memorable. We went back to our childhood in all this excitement during the journey.” Silviya said, “We wish our life’s journey is as pleasant as this beautiful trip.”

The NMR, which has a seating capacity for 143 persons chugged off with the couple at 9.10 am from Mettupalayam railway station and reached Udagamandalam at 2.40 pm.

The NMR was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 2005. While the Railways earns Rs 7,500 though ticket sales on regular trips, the couple paid Rs 2.85 lakh for the maiden chartered trip on the hill route.
