The meeting is the first such to be chaired by Stalin after he took over as party chief on August 28.

Party sources told DTNext that issues ranging from the by-elections to the upcoming Parliamentary polls are expected to be discussed in the meeting. The by-polls have been necessitated due to the recent deaths of sitting legislators, DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi (Thiruvarur) and AIADMK MLA AK Bose (Thiruparankundram).

“Stalin is in a mood to accommodate warring party functionaries and the meeting would serve as a platform to hear their grievances and to address them,” said a source, adding that the new president will get to know the ground reality and the mood of party cadre. A release by DMK general secretary K Anbazhagan asked district secretaries, MPs (Rajya Sabha) and MLAs to take part in the meeting without fail.

The meeting also assumes significance considering the demand of his estranged brother MK Alagiri to re-admit him and his supporters into the DMK. Alagiri is set to hold a rally, touted as a show of strength by his loyalists, here on September 5 to pay homage to his late father.

Meanwhile, the party has also announced awards for people who had excelled in various fields. The awards would be distributed on September 15, the birth anniversary of party founder CN Annadurai. According to a statement, Mumbai V Devadasan (Periyar award), Pon Ramakrishnan (Anna award), Kuthalam B Kalyanam (Kalaignar award), poet Indira Kumari (Pavendar award) and Kavikondal M Senguttavan (Perasiriyar award) will be felicitated at the function.
