This is the second time that George had appeared before the Justice after summon was issued to him. However, the Commission had told George that an email was sent to him stating that he was not required to appear before the Justice as the appointment had been postponed.
Responding to the Commission’s statement, George reportedly told the panel that since he did not see the email, he came to appear before the Commission.
The Commission also said that they had fixed another date for the former police commissioner to appear before it.
It may be noted that the CBI had conducted a raid at the residence of George on Wednesday in connection with multi-crore gutkha scam.
George had earlier appeared before the Justice Arumughaswamy Inquiry Commission in the second week of June.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami set up the inquiry commission headed by a retired High Court Judge Arumugasamy to probe Jayalalithaa’s death in September 2017.
Jayalalithaa spent 75 days at the hospital following her admission on September 22, 2016, after she took ill at her Poes Garden residence. She passed away on December 5, 2016.
George was the Chennai city police commissioner at the time of Jayalalithaa’s demise.
He was appointed as the commissioner of city police in September 2016. Earlier, George was the chairman of the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Service Recruitment Board.
