Talking to news persons after the meeting, Narayansamy said the meteorological department has announced that heavy rainfall will lash next month and the administration need to be prepared to face it and hence, the meeting was held today.
Officials from all departments took part in the meeting today, he said. The Chief Minister said that Krishna Nagar, Rainbow Nagar, Bhoomiyanpet and Indira Gandhi square will be the most affected at the time of rain and floods here. Ways and means to divert stagnating water into the sea, security measures for fishermen and shifting of people from water logged areas were discussed. A control room will be opened and officials of various departments will monitor the situation and take action, he added.
He said all departments are already prepared to meet the situation and on Wednesday a tsunami drill was conducted at Nallavadu fishermen village.
The Chief Minister said a sum of Rs 16 crore was allotted to desilt tanks here. The Lt Governor directed to hand over the task to ‘Eri Sanghams’ and he said that even if the task was entrusted with the Eri Sanghams, they are not doing the desilting works directly and are giving another contract. Hence the administration has decided to go for an open auction and the work would be handed over to the lowest bidder.
Stating that it is not possible to entrust to the ‘Eri Sanghams’ to do the work, Narayanasamy said that they could also participate in the auction. About 64 tanks and lakes were identified of which five or six were already desilted, he added.
Replying to a question on the Hydrocarbon project, he said that it is not coming in Puducherry.
