2 SIs suspended after accused escapes

Sources said that Ahamed Basha (29), son of Naseer, belonging to Kallur near Gudiyattam was involved in several robbery cases in Ambur, Pernambut and Gudiyattam. He was nabbed by the police on Friday night following a tip-off.

The police produced Basha before the Gudiyattam magistrate who remanded him in custody. Basha was then taken to Gudiyattam sub jail by SIs Saravanan and Venketesan, when he pushed them away and escaped.

Upon the SIs informing their higher officials about the incident, a special party headed by Gudiyattam DSP Prakash Babu was formed to trace Basha. The two SIs were suspended from service. A case has been registered and investigations are continuing.
