5 Puzhal prisoners shifted to other jails

Among those who featured in the photographs, Mohammed Rafiq was shifted to Central Prison in Coimbatore while Mohammed Ibrahim was sent to Salem.

Mohammed Riyaz was sent to Palayamkottai and Mohammed Zahir was shifted to Vellore. They were arrested in connection with a smuggling racket, prison sources said.

Ashutosh Shukla ADGP (Prisons) is said to have ordered the transfer of the inmates. The shocking images of prison cells with all facilities including scrumptious meals, beds and mobile phones along with selfies of inmates were made accessible to DTNext a few days ago.

After the images were published, the ADGP visited the prison premises and ordered an inquiry. On Friday, TV sets were seized and family of prisoners were banned from visiting. The images were retrieved from a mobile phone seized from a prisoner during a raid.
