1 dead, over 70 injured as bus rams tree in Erode
A 25-year-old youth died and over 70 others suffered injuries after the bus they were travelling in rammed a tree near Kadambur in Erode district on Monday.

According to the police, the private bus was bound for Basuvanapuram from Kadaganalli with 72 persons on board, including passengers and the crew. The bus was driven by Prabhakaran.
Near Bangalamedu around 10.30 am, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and it rammed a tree and toppled sideways. In the impact of the mishap, Soundarajan (25) from Kadaganalli was crushed to death on the spot. Other passengers and crew, including conductor Saravanan, suffered injuries, police said.
On information, the Kadambur police rushed to the spot and rescued the victims with the help of the locals. The injured were rushed to Sakthy Government Hospital. Of them, 11 persons, who suffered severe injuries, were shifted to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for further treatment.
The bus was restored to its normal position by engaging a crane. The body of the deceased person was sent to Sakthy government hospital for post-mortem.
Erode district Collector Kathiravan visited the injured persons at the Sakthy Government Hospital, while Bhavani Sagar MLA S Eswaran supervised the rescue work at the accident spot. Kadambur police have registered a case in this connection and further enquiries are on.
