Speaking at the state conference of BJP’s wing for unorganised workers, the union minister Pon Radhakrishnan who referred the hurling footwear on Periyar’s statue in Chennai said that, “It is not good to insult the leader. But, we should note that there is a growing discontent against Periyar and his Dravidian ideology in the state. This could have been made by some alleged people who are against Periyar,” Pon Radhakrishnan said.
Stating that the BJP is not longing for an alliance in Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan claimed that BJP itself has developed as a powerful party here. “It is BJP which would determine the political course of the state in future,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said that both Dravidian parties have crippled the development of the state for the past 50 years. “No industry has been established in Tiruchy after BHEL and OFT which were set up during Kamaraj’s period. Only now, the Modi government has announced a defence corridor project to Tiruchy. There will be a boom in industrial development in Tamil Nadu in next few years,” he stressed.
Earlier, BJP state president Tamilisai Soundarrajan ridiculed that DMK will not be found beyond Tamil Nadu but the BJP has strong roots in other states said, “It is ridiculous that the DMK has been claiming that it would impede BJP’s growth in Tamil Nadu. DMK has no holding outside the state but BJP is the ruling party in 22 states across the country.”
