The duo, identified as Manneer Ansari, 56 and Mandari Pundit, 38, had gone 14 feet into the underground tank sans protective gear. The tank is owned by one Karthikeyan.

A security guard found them dead. The Fire and Rescue Personnel retrieved the bodies and sent them to Erode Government Hospital for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, local residents staged a road roko on the busy Erode-Sathyamangalam Road demanding action against the owner of the unit. They withdrew the protest after police held talks with them. Veerappanchatram police have registered a case.
