It is said that Arumugasamy (32), an employee of a private finance firm in Tiruchy, was residing at Puthukudi, in Thanjavur along with his wife Sheela (24), son Ritheesh (4) and Pradeesh (3-month-old). It is said that Aumugasamy had suspicion over the fidelity of his wife and this led to frequent quarrel between them.
On Tuesday night, Arumugasamy again picked up an altercation with Sheela. At one point, Arumugasamy in a fit of rage took a sickle and reportedly slit her throat and killed her. When the baby woke up and started crying, Arumugasamy strangled the baby to death. Soon, he fled the spot.
On Wednesday morning, neighbours who heard Ritheesh crying, went inside the house and were shocked to see the bodies Sheela and the baby.
Immediately they informed the Sengipatti police, who rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. Ritheesh narrated the entire incident to police.
On information, the Thanjavur SP Senthil Kumar rushed to the spot and held inquiries. Two special teams, one headed by Boothalur Inspector Karikalacholan and another by Vallam Inspector Alex Raj, have been set up to investigate the case. Both the teams have launched a search for Arumugasamy.
