Grocer kills son after tiff over affair
A 52-year-old man allegedly murdered his 22-year-old son following a heated argument over the former’s extra-marital affair, in Thanjavur on Friday.

Mohammed Daheer of Anna Nagar, who ran a grocery shop on Vilar Road, had two sons, Abdul Rahman (22) and Ibrahim. Both the sons, who suspected that Daheer had an extra-marital affair, were staying with their mother Barkath Nisha in Erode. On Thursday, the siblings visited Daheer and Rahman picked up a quarrel with his father over settlement of family properties. Rahman allegedly chided Daheer over his extra-marital affair. Irked by this, Daheer hit Rahman, who was asleep, on the head with a grinding stone in the early hours of Friday and killed him.
Based on a complaint from Ibrahim, Thanjavur South police registered a case and launched a search for Daheer, who has been absconding since the murder.
Meanwhile, a farmer allegedly raped a 65-year-old woman when the two were consuming liquor together at Valangaiman and was arrested on Friday, police said.
The 40-year old farmer and the woman, a sanitary worker, allegedly used to drink liquor together regularly and during one such occasion recently he had raped her. Shocked, she cried for help and the neighbours came to her rescue. The farmer fled the scene after threatening them with dire consequences.
On a complaint, the man was arrested on Friday, police said adding the woman had been hospitalised.
