He said that along with Health Minister C Vijayabaskar, he is also keenly monitoring the situation to begin the preliminary works for the construction of the much-awaited hospital.
The health secretary along with Collector S Natarajan inspected the construction works to establish the accident and emergency care block in the super specialty facility and wards for treating out-patients.
After the inspection, Radhakrishnan said medical infrastructure is established with financial support from the Centre in government hospitals in Madurai, to which prominence is given after Chennai. The construction of six outpatient wards will be completed within the second week of October, he added.
He said the government is taking steps to soon appoint adequate number of doctors, nurses, medical officers and administrative staff for the multi-specialty hospital.
On AIIMS, he said there won’t be any issue in acquiring land for the hospital, as 200 acres of land under the control of the Health Department has been already earmarked for acquisition and soil test. The mandatory soil test has been conducted, he added.
