Plogging’ on Gandhi Jayanti to make Tiruchy a Swachh spot
Over 3,000 people from various walks of life participated in the plogging event organised by the Tiruchy Corporation as part of Swachch Survekshan campaign and to mark Gandhi Jayanti celebrations in the city on Tuesday.

Corporation commissioner N Ravichandran said, “The participants, who gathered at 6 am on Tuesday, showed the spirit of Tiruchy and the residents’ resolve to keep the city clean. If this spirit continues, Tiruchy will be easily able to achieve the cleanest city honour in the country.”
The participants were provided with bags and sticks to pick up the litter and corporation vehicles were on the rounds to collect the aggregated waste from them.
District collector K Rajamani, police commissioner A Amalraj and dean of Mahathman Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital G Anitha, joined the campaign and collected the waste on the stretch of Race Course Road while they also jogged and interacted with students and public, who participated in the ‘plogging’ event.
Speaking at the event, Rajamani said, “This drive should continue and students should strive to make the initiative a regular feature in the city.” According to the officials, around one tonne of garbage was picked up by the participants.
Retired SP A Kaliyamurthy, music composer and ambassador of Tiruchy Corporation James Vasanth, actor Aadhi, orator and writer Gopinath extended their best wishes to Tiruchy residents for keeping the city clean and also participated in the plogging.
