The level crossing was permanently closed more than a year ago, with officials stating a bridge would be constructed in its place. However, there has been no progress in the project since then leading to various political parties staging agitations in recent months demanding the expeditious construction of the bridge. Due to this situation, locals are forced to take a nearly 5-kilometre-long detour to cross the railway track.

On Thursday, a team of railway officials visited the spot. On hearing about the visit, representatives of various political parties rushed to the spot and requested that the bridge work be taken up soon.

They were, however, told that the work was held up due to the State government’s delay in handing over land for the project. “Only when the land is handed over to us, work can be taken up,” a senior official said. Locals are now set to petition the State government for the redressal of this long pending grievance.
