The deputy director general of meteorology S Balachandran on Friday said conditions are becoming favourable for the onset of the monsoon.

“The cyclonic circulation over Southeast Arabian Sea is very likely to become more marked by Saturday. It is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm and move towards the Oman coast thereafter,” he said.

Another low-pressure area may be formed over the south Bay of Bengal around October 8.

Balachandran said the system is likely to intensify and move towards Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh during the subsequent 72 hours.

Meanwhile, according to the INCOIS, the southern TN coast is likely to witness waves with a maximum height in the range of 3-4 metres between 12.30 PM on October 6 and 11.30 PM on October 7.
