‘Centre will take steps to bring back seized boats from Sri Lanka’

The Central government is taking all out efforts to bring back boats of Tamil Nadu fishermen that are detained by the Sri Lankan Navy personnel on the grounds of cross border fishing. Several detained boats of Tamil Nadu are kept under the custody of Sri Lanka, said Pon Radhakrishnan, Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping.

After inaugurating a programme on Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance Scheme at Thamaraikulam near Uchipuli in Ramanathapuram district on Sunday, he said while responding to a query that the resignation of Union Minister MJ Akbar, who was accused of sexual harassment by women journalists, showed his magnanimity. Even after making such allegations against him, Akbar was facing the heat of criticism and the opposition parties demanded his resignation.

Earlier, Radhakrishnan while referring to the scheme, said as many as 1.5 lakh health and wellness centres are being created through the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi under this scheme, which would benefit people of the economically deprived section.

Highlighting the advantages of the scheme, he said a family could avail medical treatments of up to Rs 5 lakh a year. Ramanathapuram Collector K Veera Raghava Rao and officials from Department of Health were also present in the event.
