Ever since the CB-CID started probing the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission examination scams, the investigators had been receiving a lot of ‘inputs’ about the possible malpractices that could have taken place. Some even shared their personal experiences through letters to the senior probe officers, all indicating that corruption and graft were part of the recruitments at least for the last several decades. In one such letter received by the CB-CID office, a person from Rajapalayam alleged that there was malpractice in the Group-1 examination held in 2003 too. He claimed that one of those who were selected illegally was linked to an officer attached to the CM’s cell and that the beneficiary could now be serving as a deputy commissioner.

According to him, there was malpractice in the selection of station fire officers in 2008, and that he himself, after appearing for the test, was called for physical test because he had asked for details of selection under reserved category through an RTI query. He further claimed malpractice in the 2012 Group-2 examination, TNUSRB exams for SI posts in 2008 and Jailor posts in 2009. He also alleged that the 2018 Group-2 exam was rigged and gave examples of possible malpractice. The CB-CID officers, however, said they receive many such letters when sensational cases are under investigation. Some letters may contain some truth while others will be fictitious.— Raghu VP
