Over 11L applications for name inclusion: CEO

Over 11 lakh voters in the State have submitted form 6 seeking inclusion of names in the photo electoral rolls, Chief Electoral Officer, Tamil Nadu, Sathyabrata Sahoo said in a statement on Monday.

After reviewing the special summary revision of electoral rolls, the CEO said that the response from voters was encouraging with about 16 lakh people seeking the services of public elections department.

Those who have not enrolled so far or need to do any changes or correction in the electoral roll may do it on or before October 31.

The claims and objections are being processed and after disposal, the final electoral rolls will be published on January 4 next year, Sahoo said.

According to public election department sources, 80,231 people in Chennai submitted form 6, followed by Kancheepuram, Vellore and Tiruvallur registering 77,241, 69,413 and 65,675 forms respectively.

In case of deletion, the maximum representation came from Salem, Vellore and Erode. The period prescribed for receipt of claims and objections is from September 1 till to October 31.

A total of 78,693 persons have also submitted forms through online mode.

Poll-bound Madurai and Tiruvarur districts where Tiruparankundram and Tiruvarur assembly seats are vacant received 57,900 and 23,022 forms seeking inclusion.

As usual, the enrolment response from backward districts like Ariyalur, Perambalur, Nilgiris and Ramanathapuram were below 20,000 forms, sources said.

The total voters’ strength is likely to be around 5.9 crore and this will be around 75 per cent of the TN population.

Majority of the voters are beleived to be in the age group of 21 to 49. Sholinganallur in Kancheepuram and Harbour in Chennai are likely to the largest and the smallest constituencies in Chennai, sources said.

Most of the factors like women outnumbering men and the constituency wise strength are to be almost similar to that of 2017, sources said adding that there may be an increase in voters’ strength by next January.
