Vada Chennai kicks up controversy

“In the film, the language spoken by the residents of north Chennai is shown in a vulgar manner and the locality is shown as an area that breeds criminals. It has created a bad opinion among the Tamils across the world,” said Lingaperumal, State president, Tamil Nadu Ezhai Eliyor Naduthara Makkal Nalasangam.

Vada Chennai was released on Thursday, on the day of Ayudha Pooja and received mixed feedback from critics. However, the social organisations and residents have condemned the film for showing the area in bad light. 

Ponnusamy, State president, Tamil Nadu Milk Traders Workers Welfare Association, who is also a resident of Vyasarpadi, said that the life of the residents here has been restricted to criminal activities in the film. “The film show that all the residents of north Chennai are involved in anti-social activities such as murders, smuggling and stalking, and are roaming around without any responsibility. But in reality, the area is filled with workers and labourers who struggle for their livelihood,” Ponnusamy added. 

Government should take steps to remove the dialogues with filthy language and action initiated against Dhanush and the director, Vetrimaran, said the residents.
