Kalaivani (47), wife of Sureshkumar of Sivankoil New Street at Maharnonbuchavady in Thanjavur, planned to visit a relative’s house for a function in the Ammapettai area.

She was traveling to the venue riding pillion on the bike driven by her nephew A Kulothungan (35) of New Housing Unit, Thanjavur.

On the way they picked up B Abinesh (7), grandson of Kalaivani, from an international school on the Thanjavur by-pass road.

When the bike was passing through Poondi village on the Thanjavur-Nagappattinam highway, the tanker lorry proceeding from Tiruchy to Nagappattinam hit the bike and all the three on the bike fell on the road in the impact. The lorry ran over them.

Angry members of the public rushed to the spot and attacked Rawthersami of Vedaranyam, the driver of the tanker lorry.

Later, Ammapettai police inspector Senguttuvan and others also rushed to the spot and sent the bodies of the victims to the Papanasam Government Hospital for post-mortem. The police arrested Rawthersami.
