Rajesh and his extended family members from Bengaluru came to Thanjavur and engaged a mini-bus to visit tourist places and pilgrim centres. On Monday evening they were returning from Vailankanni to Thanjavur via Kangalancherry in Tiruvarur district.

When their mini-bus was crossing Chozanganallur village two persons in plain clothes asked it to stop. As the driver thought they were asking for a lift, he drove on. However, the duo chased the bus in their bike and stopped it at Sooranur speed breaker.

The duo informed that they were PEW sleuths and allegedly abused the driver. They also tried to inspect the passengers who objected to it as they failed to show their ID cards. Following this, the duo reportedly abused the passengers, who in turn entered into an altercation.

Vaipur police arrived there and took the tourists to the police station. Despite the tourists’ plea that they had to board a train from Thanjavur to Bengalauru, they were forced to wait. Later, the Revenue officials, who came to know about the incident, intervened and the tourists were let off.  Meanwhile, the District Police administration transferred the PEW police Head Constable Sankar, Ilavarasan, to the Armed Reserve wing as they were not wearing uniform when they stopped the tourist bus.
