SCERT to boost career guidance programmes

Tamil Nadu State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has decided to enhance career guidance programme for students by involving experts and faculty members of the council.

Accordingly, the programme will be organised in all the 413 blocks and 32 districts to update the information on courses and the prospects to the students. Adding to this, Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation will also extend its support to print career guidance handbooks for the students studying in Class 10, 11 and 12.


“The government is concerned about the difficulties faced by students in government and aided schools, while choosing the right course in under graduation that can help them climb the professional ladder. To address this lacuna and empower students with updated information on courses and their prospects, career guidance programme is organised,” a senior official from SCERT said on Monday.


Chief Educational Officers (CEOs), District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) principals and district level authorities were given instructions through video conferencing for conducting this programme.


The Directorate of Employment and Training collaborated with SCERT in providing materials such as career guidance handbooks for Class 10 and Class 12, brochures with all the available career options and registration cum feedback forms, the official said. All the students attending the career guidance will be provided with pamphlets for their reference.


According to SCERT, experts will create awareness among the students about various government exams such as bank, staff selection commission, union public service commission and others exam for getting into various department. In addition, faculties of SCERT will give the list of upcoming exams in various sectors so that students can choose accordingly. This programme will benefit more than 15 lakh students across the state.
