According to an order issued by J Kumaragurubaran, Inspector General of Registration, dual display screens are introduced as a part of implementing Modular Workstations in the sub-registrar offices.

“With the new screens, the public can see the actions taken by the officials such as processing tokens, taking thumb impression and more importantly, taking photos of the applicants,” Kumaragurubaran said. He also directed the officials to place dual display screen on tables close to the sub-registrars’ table.

It is also said that the dual display screens and modular workstations are implemented under new online registration system, Star 2.0. “The online system has been implemented to ensure transparency in the department. Introducing dual display screens will help in a more transparent process,” another official said.

Presently, all the sub-registrar offices have computers, biometric fingerprint scanners, camera, printer, focus lights and IP cameras. “However, the devices are placed in a haphazard manner and leads to taking low-clarity photos of applicants. It is necessary to set up the uniform workstation to take quality pictures. The modular workstation will have provisions for LED lights, fingerprint scanners and cameras,” Kumaragurubaran said.

The modular workstation will be provided to all the sub-registrar offices before the end of this month. But the dual display system will be introduced from November 7 (Wednesady). The department will provide one dual display screen to the sub-registrar offices, where one sub-registrar is posted. While two such screens will be provided to offices with two sub-registrars.

The registration department is already providing written statements with the reason for the denial of registration if the document not accepted for registration. Applicants also check the status of their application online.
