Police said that Shanmugam (40), a farmer of Anganatha Valasai village near Tirupattur, was married to Kala (37) and the couple had two children. However, Kala developed intimacy with Ekambaram (40) of the same locality. On learning about this, Shanmugam warned his wife.
Following this, Kala deserted her husband a year ago and moved to Kerala with Ekambaram.
Six months ago, Shamugam married another woman Sujatha (30) of Singagarpettai in Dharmapuri district. Recently, Kala changed her mind and decided to reunite with Shanmugam and returned from Kerala.
Though Shanmugam was opposed to the reunion plan, Kala took the issue to a kangaroo court conducted by locals, where it was decided that she would live with him and his second wife. Kala, who was not convinced with the ‘diktat’ of the kangaroo court, contacted Ekambaram and hatched a plot to kill Shanmugam and Sujatha.
On Thursday night, Ekambaram came to Kala’s house with two hired killers from Erode. The trio attacked the couple, who was asleep, with rods and knives. On hearing the screams of Shanmugam and Sujatha, neighbours rushed to the house and nabbed one of the hired killers, who was identified as Nagaraj (36). The search is on to find the absconding Ekambaram and the other killer. Tirupattur taluk police registered a case and arrested Kala and Nagaraj. Further investigation is on.
