Anna University moots Indo-Swedish research programme

The Centre for International Affairs of Anna University has called young researchers in the educational institutions to join the Indo-Swedish joint research programme, initiated by both the governments, for doing research activities in computer and materials science.

Accordingly, Rs 60 lakh will be granted to the research activities in various areas such as human-computer interaction design, software engineering, ceramics and composite materials and among others.

The programme supports cutting-edge basic research that brings together faculty and young researchers from Sweden and India. The program is financed by the Swedish Research Council and the Department of Science and Technology (DST) in India on the principle of reciprocity, parity and activity matching funding.

The research collaborations will be based on the principle of mutual benefit, equality and commonly set objectives. The Swedish Research Council and DST will have joint administration of the call and make a joint decision by using both Swedish and Indian evaluators.

The research programme in computer science will focus on information systems, interaction technologies, theoretical computer science and computer architecture.

Similarly, in materials, the research focus will be in manufacturing, surface and joining technology, materials characterisation, materials chemistry, materials design, materials structure, metallic materials and metallurgy, polymers and polymer engineering, thin film materials and biomaterials.

The Indian project leader will be involved in planning of the collaboration and elaboration of the application of the researchers. The Indian side shall provide free furnished accommodation to the visiting Swedish scientists. In addition, the Swedish scientists visiting India will be paid towards food and other expenses.

Accordingly, the Swedish side will cover the actual occurred cost for Indian scientist visiting Sweden. For Sweden, the grant period is two years, starting in 2019. After the two years, there is one additional year to dispose the funding. For India, grant period is three years, starting in 2019.
