EC seeks info of poll officers for Vellore

The Vellore district administration has sought details of government officials from various departments for the 2019 Parliamentary elections, following instructions from the Central Election Commission.

Addressing a meeting in this regard, Collector SA Raman said, the Election Commission had sought details of government and public department officials for 2019 Lok Sabha poll duty.


He instructed those present to ensure that the details of the officials along with their recent photos were uploaded on to the Election Commission website after getting the approval of the department head concerned.


He also said that a week ago Vellore Chief Electoral Officer was handed over 15,000 application forms based on the information of the 17,055 officials involved in the 2016 general elections work, of them 14,938 were either government school teachers or education department officials.


Similarly, the district Adi Dravidar Welfare Officer was given 673 application forms. The other government department heads were asked to supply details of the staff in their departments.


The district collector, also the district Election Officer, would decide the names of presiding and polling officers for the district, while, the micro observers would be chosen from central government departments and nationalized banks.


Forms for this purpose were provided to the lead bank officials and central government officials present during the meeting. The filled in application forms must be submitted on or before November 16, Raman said.


Those present included DRO J Parthiban, sub collector P Meghraj, PA (elections) S Narayanan and election tahsildar J Balaji.
