Due to heavy rains, the vehicle safari remained cancelled since August. “Vehicle safari is conducted only during weekends on Saturday and Sunday and it resumed on November 10 and 11,” said a staff of the forest department.

The vehicle safari was introduced in STR in November last year and has been receiving an overwhelming response from tourists. The three-hour vehicle safari is conducted on Karachikorai – Thengumarahada, Dhimbam – Tipu Sultan Road, Kuyyanur Pirivu – Karikal Mokkai, Hassanur – Huligerepatti, Talavadi – Jeerahally Road or Yettugatti Betta and Germalam – Shooting Lodge Road.

Tourists are taken in vehicles inside the forest areas in jeeps and vans, where they can see the wild animals. STR, the largest wildlife sanctuary in the State, covers a forest area of 1,411.60 sq. km and was declared as a tiger reserve in 2013.

Those interested to make bookings for the safari can contact the Sathyamangalam Tiger Foundation at 96009-12528 or can book online https://str-tn.org/. The tourists can also know the cost of safari’s in each route online prior to booking.
