The residents were given alternative houses by Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) at Malumichampatti. The encroachers were issued eviction notices and given a long time to vacate.

A majority of residents moved to Malumichampatti, while a few refused as they found it to be far and were demanding houses in and around Ukkadam area. The residents were also seeking more time, until this academic year, as they claimed that moving over to a different locality will increase the distance for their children to reach school. They feared it would affect their studies. However, the civic body and the highways department went ahead with their eviction drive. A few residents, who continued to stay there, vacated speedily by taking away their belongings. A large posse of police personnel was deployed at the spot to prevent untoward incidents; however, the eviction process went on smoothly without any issues.

After the demolition process, the corporation will hand over the land to the highways department for the construction of the flyover.
