7-year-old girl killed in T’malai wall collapse

A seven-year-old girl was killed and four others were injured when the wall of their house collapsed due to heavy rain on Thursday night.

While the girl Priyamani was killed on the spot, the other injured in the incident at Vadamanapakkam were admitted to the Cheyyar Government Hospital.

Schools and other educational institutes remind closed due to heavy rain in the district.  In the 24 hours ending at 8 am on Friday, the district recorded a total of 375.80 mm averaging 31.20 mm. Vandavasi recorded the highest rain at 76 mm while Vembakkam recorded the least at 7.20 mm.

The following are the rainfall recorded in other areas: Arni 23.6 mm, Cheyyar 44 mm, Chengam 10.6 mm, Sathanur Dam 31.2 mm, Polur 23.2 mm, Thandarampattu 23 mm, Chetpet 44.3 mm and Kilpennathur 38.4 mm.

However, officials said the continuing rain would not hamper Karthigaideepam celebrations and the deities of Arunachaleshwarar temple would be taken in procession at the appropriate time. While the procession of Chandikeshwarar and Vinayagar proceeded through the four mada streets in the morning, the main deities graced the devotees in the evening. Devotees witnessed the spectacular procession even in the rain.
