Police said that Thangaraj (32) of Sathuvachari in Indiranagar, had more than 29 cases pending against him.

Adding to this, he was also said to be the henchman of rowdy Vasur Raja, who is currently in jail. However, a couple of months ago Thangaraj was released on bail from the Vellore central prison.

It is said that Thangaraj, who was a habitual drunkard, allegedly demanded money from Thandumari (40) of the same locality, with whom he had an affair.

Thangaraj would also beat her when inebriated. The constant demand for money, irritated the woman, who ran a petty shop.

On Saturday night, when Thangaraj demanded money for liquor from Thandumari, it led to an altercation between them. Enraged over his behaviour, Thandumari along with her son Tamilarasan (20) and a relative, Kanniyammal (32), thrashed and stabbed Thangaraj.

Finally, in a fit of rage, Thandumari allegedly dropped a mortar pestle on Thangaraj’s head killing him on the spot. The trio then fled the scene soon after the murder.

Sathuvachary police registered a case and sent the body to the Vellore Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. A hunt is on to nab the trio.
