While five accused were arrested on Friday, two others had been arrested on Saturday. According to Ambasamudram Inspector C Prathaban, the victim Sankar, an employee of District Central Cooperative Bank, developed a love affair with Sathyabama (22), who belonged to another community. Initially, discontent brew over this affair, but later the families agreed.

However, brother of Sathyabama, a 17-year-old juvenile offender, one of the accused in this incident, hatched a plot to kill Sankar. The gang attempted twice to finish off Sankar on November 18 and 19, but failed. However, the gang succeeded in their attempt on November 20.

In the wake of his murder, Sathyabama committed suicide by hanging on the next day and the Veeravanallur police filed a case. Two weapons (aruval) and a motor bike were seized from the gang.

Based on a complaint lodged by Selvam, brother of Sankar, Ambasamudram police filed a case. The accused were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, the Inspector said.
